Summit Reservoir & Irrigation Company

Our reservoirs are replenished mostly from snow melt run-off via two (2) ditch systems below our points-of-diversion.   Turkey Creek flows through Joe Moore Reservoir and then into Summit Reservoir.   The Lost Canyon ditch flows into the North side of Summit Reservoir directly.   These ditch systems were created in late 1800's and early 1900's to capture the run-off and direct it into our reservoirs.   These ditches are subject to bank sluffing, in many cases bringing trees, rock boulders and root balls with them.

Each spring our ditch rider, Steve Boyd works with local contractors utilizing heavy equipment to remove obstructions from these ditches in order to maintain the flow of the run-off water.   The ditches must constantly be inspected and when an obstruction occurs  blocking the ditch and it is not immediately dealt with, the water tends to finds another path, often resulting a "ditch blow-out" which interrupts the flow for up to two (2) weeks or more while repairs are made.

Below are a few pictures of activities from the 2019 season in Lost Canyon.
